How do I work?

My approach is Humanistic Integrative, which means that I am able to use different theories and techniques to suit the needs of each client. I believe that each individual is different and therefore the way that they cope with situations will be different. So it is important for me, as your Counsellor, to adapt accordingly. I am trained in Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, TA (Transactional Analysis) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

I believe that if I am able to provide you with a warm, safe, and confidential space to feel comfortable in and feel listened to without judgement, then you will be more likely to open up and trust me to help you explore any issues that you may be experiencing.

I work with a range of issues including:

Professional Experience

I am an Associate Counsellor at a local counselling practice called Steven James Counselling, which is based in Westbourne, where I mainly work with problem gamblers. I also work out of this location for my private practice.

I am a registered member of the BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am bound by their strict code of ethics, which ensure the highest standards of practice and confidentiality. I attend regular clinical supervision to ensure my work remains safe, up-to-date and ethical. I am also fully insured and have an up-to-date DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service).

As part of my training, I decided to undergo my own personal therapy in order to better support my clients, and also to understand and experience counselling myself. I feel that it has given me some insight into how it may be for you, the client, to embark on this journey.
